WHO ARE WE?
The StoryTIC team is made up of five researchers specialized in language development from different perspectives. Below you will find more information about each of us.
One of our goals as researchers is to bring research closer to educational practice, so that the research has a direct impact on improving the techniques used to promote oral language learning.
Pilar Prieto
Dr. Pilar Prieto is an ICREA research professor in the Dept. of Translation and Language Sciences at Pompeu Fabra University. His research studies the multimodal properties of language and how they interact with communication and human language development. An applied branch of her research investigates the cognitive benefits of multimodal training that includes prosody and gesture in first and second language development. Co-creator of the tools "Before the first words" and "Orality", which contain tools and resources to improve communication.
Alfonso Igualada
Dr. Igualada is a professor and researcher at the Open University of Catalonia and works as a speech therapist in the area of neurodevelopment (eg, Language Development Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder). Part of his research is devoted to the development of tools applied to the improvement of language and communication in typical and atypical populations. In addition, he works in research, teaching and multimodal language intervention in typical and atypical populations.
Julia Florit-Pons
Júlia Florit-Pons is a pre-doctoral researcher and professor at Pompeu Fabra University. His research focuses on multimodality, and specifically, how this skill relates to language skills and how multimodality can help improve discursive and communicative skills, both in typical and atypical development. His research has a very practical side, so that it can be easily applied in the real context.
Hey Valls
Dr. Ïo Valls is Caterina from StoryTIC. He completed his doctoral thesis on the impact of virtual reality on the oral communication of high school students. He is currently doing a postdoc at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) which aims to create and develop a virtual reality application to encourage and reinforce the learning of oral skills in secondary school students. In addition, it provides training for teachers of different educational levels for the application of orality in classrooms. Co-creator of the website "Orality" of tools and resources for learning to speak in public with a special emphasis on the application of oral activities in secondary school classrooms.
Florence Baills
Dr. Florence Baills is a lecturer at the Faculty of Letters and the Faculty of Law, Economics and Tourism at the University of Lleida. In his research, he is interested in the use of gestures together with prosody to structure speech and express the pragmatic functions of language and how this information can be used for applications in language learning through training educational
